The North and South Nodes move every 20 months

A little over 20 hours after the Cancer Full Moon, the North and South Nodes will shift into Taurus and Scorpio respectively after 623 days (or 1 year and 8 months) of being in Gemini + Sagittarius. Now that might sound like a load of terminology that doesn’t make sense - so let me explain…

The North Node represents our Dharma

The North Node is a point in our charts that represents our soul’s calling. We might call that destiny, our soul’s purpose or use the Sanskrit word Dharma. Which has many meanings. For me I resonate with the idea that it represents our path or the cosmic journey unto which we must abide. A cosmic journey which sits beyond our freewill, and is something that we organised as a soul prior to our incarnation. Very often our North Node is a path that can make us uncomfortable, and even have us bringing our old insecurities. This is it’s design. Think of it like the path to higher consciousness, in order to step into new altitude we have to be challenged and in that open ourselves up to the possibility that we can do this. It is our path to liberation.

The South Node represents our Karma

The South Node lies directly opposite the North Node. You might think of it as the place from which we have come - where the North Node is calling us towards our future. The South Node represents both our Karma (simply meaning action) and our Soul Gifts. It gives us a glimpse into who we were in previous lives and what types of skills we mastered - as well as what karmic woundings we have come into this life with. It’s important to note that Karma is like the layer that lies over our soul gifts. As we balance our past actions through inquiry, self-reflection and forgiveness we’ll notice that our soul gifts start to emerge.

N.B if you want to see where your north node or south node lies, head to astro.com and pull up your chart. We all have different soul paths, based on the house, sign and aspects of the planets around this. Or hit me up for a reading, and we can delve into that.

The Transiting North + South Nodes follow Eclipse Season

The Nodes are incredibly powerful points in a chart. Like I wrote above, they give you hints as to where your soul gifts lie as well as where this lifetime is calling you - what path is going to take you into a higher level of consciousness. Now the transiting North and South Nodes work their way around your chart over an 18 year period. Generally every 18 years we will enter a state of wrapping up old energy related to our karma + dharma, and stepping into greater alignment with our life’s calling. Added to that Eclipses always follow the North and South Node as they move around a chart. So when we hit eclipse season it’s like Wham! the energy of our higher selves taking over to help us back on our path (as well as supporting us in working through our Karma).

What does the North Node moving into Taurus Mean?

Taurus is a sign of stability and it represents the material realm. As the North Node (which remember represents our soul’s path) moves into Taurus we’re called into the realm of self-worth + value. This represents a 20 month period of coming into a new level of understanding of finances, possessions and most importantly your own self-worth. This is an energy that actually calling for us to calm the drama, and to realise that life is meant to be enjoyable. It’s ok to spend time and money on yourself, and it’s ok to luxuriate in the material realm. You have chosen a physical incarnation, and as such why not enjoy the beautiful transience of this realm. For some of us this is a hard energy to get our heads around, as it’s calling for peace and to stop the overthinking.

What does the South Node moving into Scorpio Mean?

Just as the North Node is calling for you to find stability, this is almost so you have the security to start to venture into the subconscious and shadows of your own karmic predicament. As the South Node moves into Scorpio you are being called to shed light upon the energy you have brought over with you from previous lives (and lives within your family lineage and society) that has you playing power games, sabotaging, doubting and living out old patterns of behaviour. You can see how the North Node is calling for you to find grounding, in order for you to feel safe as you explore these darker aspects of your psyche. This transit can also wake up your Soul Gifts, and help you clean up old beliefs around persecution or betrayal you may have experienced around them in previous lives.

You should pay particular attention to this shift if…

This shift is going to feel really strong for those with a Taurus or Scorpio Sun, Moon or Ascendent or if you are going through you North Node/ South Node returns every 18-ish years (so approx 18 years, 36 years, 54 years, 72 years and 90 years old).
