THE POWER OF THE STRUGGLE

Astronomical Position of the Gemini New Moon on the 25th of June, 2025

The New moon on the 25th of June falls right between the Gemini + Orion Constellation in the sky in a powerful lunar mansion (Nakshatra) called ‘Ardra’ (which is considered part of Gemini). This is a Nakshatra that offers us the gift of the hunt and helps us to reach our goals but only through struggle, challenge and tribulation. As without effort we rarely value what we achieve or find.

This is a New Moon that is calling for persistence, and for you to see the value in trying, making effort and even feeling challenged – as it is through this tension you come to understand yourself (not through the realisation of the goal). This idea reminds me of a story from one of my teachers, when asked why we can’t all just be enlightened or self-realised, they replied saying ‘if it was given automatically you would not value it’. I’ve heard this idea repeated by another teacher (who is a realised being) who said ‘even if I could give you realisation (which I can’t) I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t take that discovery away from you’.  So this Moon begs for us to see that the obstacle is the way, that what we think ‘blocks us’ or keeps us from our goal is where the greatest gift to ourselves lies.

EMBRACING THE WILDNESS OF ARDRA NAKSHATRA

Ardra Nakshatra is the place where we connect to our true inner nature, to our emotions and to our wildness. It rules all things that are undomesticated, uncivilised and live in a state of their true essence; and its deity is the fierce form of Shiva, Rudra. As such you can find that this New Moon (and coming 6 month lunar cycle) calls for you to re-wild yourself, to spend more time in nature, to unlearn the programming that domesticated you, to connect to your natural kinship to nature through wild animals, wild landscapes and remembering that untamed essential part of yourself. To be whole is to remember who you were before you were taught who you should be…

ALLOWING EMOTIONS TO RISE

Ardra means ‘moist’ (some translate it to ‘one who cries) and its symbol is the tear drop. It’s a place in Gemini which deals with emotions that have been repressed, and the desires we hold that keep us bound not just to a human body but to acting in a way which is counter to our true nature (which means often it’s aligned with ‘culture’). This New Moon can bring with it a sense of dissatisfaction with the world – the state of humanity, and the way we have, as a culture, tried to tame nature (be that indigenous populations through colonisation, the earth through pillaging her for resources etc). This dissatisfaction serves to bring up emotions, which can manifest as tears, rage and confusion. This is a Moon calling for us to sit with these feelings, and to use them to purify + clear our vision. In fact you can find that as the Moon starts to wax again later in the week there is a sense of renewal, understanding and an ability to perceive in a new way. This is a New Moon which is helping you to see correctly, and that means it must first remove from your eye (physically or metaphorically) the ignorance that blinds it.

GET OUTSIDE AND HOWL

When the Moon is in Gemini, particularly Ardra Nakshatra, it can naturally give the mind the tendency to over thinking, and this can stir up the calm of the mind. Ardra is often compared to a storm, as thinking always precedes emotion, the natural rumination of Gemini can work as an aid to bring up to the surface what has really been bothering you. Just know that when you are in this inner storm, you won’t have accurate perception of what is true. So as you ride the ups and downs of this New Moon, keep in mind that what is happening is for you and it is working to purify the mind by helping you see what disturbs this. The best way to regulate this energy is to give it voice, to howl (that is what Rudra means) and release the energy through sound.

THROUGH DESTRUCTION WISDOM PREVEILS

It's really important to also pay attention to the collective energy with this New Moon as it will be aligned with Jupiter + Magdalena and in conflict with Saturn, Neptune + Ate (Goddess of Mischief). We’ve been in some pretty bumpy cosmic weather since Saturn + Neptune started their meeting, and this New Moon is adding to it, helping burst the bubble around institutional control (ie. governments, business, and collectives that work on hierarchy). This New Moon is one that is asking you to look within, and to see where this energy lives within– through colonial programming (us versus them), the need for supremacy, control and power. This New Moon has the power to create incredible destruction to old systems, that are holding on as the consciousness of this world changes. Trust that through your own inner destruction of ignorance, and hunting for the truth, that you are serving something bigger than yourself. This is a Moon that no matter the storm created, wisdom will always prevail (and is born from this storm).
