THE SPIRITUAL SUN + VENUS ARE ALIGNED WITH THE NEW MOON

This New Moon is very significant as it will be aligned with the star Sirius - often called the Spiritual Sun - as well as Venus. Sirius is the star of the Divine Mother and was worshiped by the Ancient Egyptians as Sopdet (Isis). This star follows Osiris (aka Orion) around the night sky restoring him from death with her life giving fertility. As such this is a star that gives life to what is broken within us, what needs to be transformed through truth and the grace of the divine mother. Helping us to realise that we can be both broken and whole at the same time. On a physical level this is a New Moon that is calling for creation, resurrection and the birthing of the divine into the physical.

THIS MOON CYCLE HAS TWO HALVES

This is a very unusual New Moon, as the intentions that you lay with it have two points of manifestation. The first will be the first Full Moon of 2025 on the 13-14th of January, and the second will be the first Full Moon of 2026 on the 3rd of January (directly aligned with Sirius). As such you can find that what you are co-creating with the universe falls into two parts, or has two distinct points of arrival. Given this Moon is so deeply connected to the Divine Mother, as you lay intentions she will only accept that which is in true alignment with your highest good. There can also be an urging for you to feel into the metaphysical and spiritual - not just the worldly as the source of what you want to manifest.

THIS IS A MOON OF SPIRITUAL INITIATION

This Cancer New Moon sits in the middle of the two Capricorn Full Moons. Cancer (like Capricorn) is a sign of initiation. However unlike Capricorn which constricts, this Moon calls for you to become softer, to embrace vulnerability and to get humble + low...just like water. The energy of this New Moon can feel like a mother's love - it calls for you to face the world, to take responsibility for yourself and at the same time to realise that you are always sitting in the lap of the divine mother (no matter what lesson you face). The feeling of this New Moon reminds me of this line from the Tao Ti Ching:

The soft overcomes the hard; the gentle overcomes the rigid. Everyone knows this is true, but few can put it into practice.

YOU'RE BEING CALLED HOME

This New Moon is operating on many levels all of which are calling you home. You can find that in the physical realm this Moon stirs up questions of where you want to live or what you need to change around your home, on a psychological level it can bring up relational energy around your mother (your first home), and finally at a spiritual level you can find that there is a deep longing to find a lasting home within yourself. The key to this energy is remembering that everything within is reflected outside of you. So if you start by looking at why you don't feel like your belong or feel at home from within yourself - you'll find that the external environment mimics + helps you understand what you need to own within you to find this place. Remember as you ask this question, and desire answers to do so thinking of it like a dance with the divine mother in her material form.

DEVOTION IS KEY

It is said that in the Kali Yuga (the Vedic dark age we are living in) the easiest way to realise divinity is through Bhakti (aka love/ devotion). This works to keep the mind focused on the divine and not on 'worldly thoughts' . As such this New Moon can see you spiritually embracing greater surrender to your chosen Ishta Deva (personal god). This could manifest as the start of a daily practice, the deepening of a sadhana or the embodied experience of the divine within as love (Sat-Chit-Ananda). So consider, if you are just starting on this path that this is the perfect Moon to honour the divine mother and start a routine which brings your devotion for her into your 'home'. For those with an exisiting practice this New Moon can work to deepen your devotion and move your practice from ritual to encompassing daily life.

WHAT IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT HAS TO GO

Although there is a lot of energy working with the Cancer New Moon - Chiron, Ceres and the Nodes are creating some necessary friction which is going to bring about profound personal growth over the next 6 months. You can find that themes like resentment, betrayal and abandonment start to surface as this Moon calls you home - physically or spiritually. This can be energy that stems from the relationship with your mother, or your family of origin. In essence it is showing you the karmic obstacles that keep you separate, feeling 'alone' and disconnected. One of your greatest tools at this time is understanding. That doesn't mean condoning or agreeing with the actions of others, but it means empathising and seeing where that might have come from (through their eyes). Remembering that when you withhold compassion from others, you do so from yourself too.
