Venus, the energy of love and attraction, shifts into retrograde on the 13th of May for 43 days until the 25th of June. Now she’s getting a lot of play on socials and blogs; mainly because of our obsession with relationships and love. A worthy obsession indeed. However at the heart of Venus is some much needed truth. She is not really about our external world - relationships, hook-ups, attraction - rather this is a projection of the internal. When she hits retrograde we feel this as we’re sent deep into seeing our own love, value and intrinsic motivation. That’s right, as well as showing us what we’re attracted to, she shows us what we attract to ourselves - after all we call in that which is in vibrational alignment. Yes, she’s basically the law of attraction.

What is Venus all about?

When we boil down her energy she is an aspect of the divine feminine. However thanks for the patriarchal society we have been living in (and the way Greek Mythology was written + understood) she has been seen in society in her most superficial manner. She is feminine sexuality, promiscuity and the chaos that ensues when a women owns this part of self. Yes, this is all true. However she is so, so much more. During retrograde season she get’s a chance to show us her depth.

Like the Hindu goddess, Lalita Tripura Sundari, Venus (who is her equivalent) is not just a hot bombshell or pretty thing to look at, she is the power of creation and all motivation in the universe. Attraction in our physical realm isn’t just sexual, it’s everything. We are vibrational beings who like complex magnets are constantly attracting and repelling all around us. At her deepest level Venus is this magnet, this vibration of attraction we hold within ourselves.

She isn’t about going into the world and getting - like Mars - rather is about receiving. She is about working with the universe (that she is a part of ) in order to receive. As an energy born of the sea (which is a metaphor for our subconscious mind) she often shows up without us even realising it. You know how we continuously attract the same lessons to us, again and again…that’s her. Until we realise that our vibration is at the heart of this, we continue to run into this subconscious program. Just like Jung said: 'We meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the path of life'. She is the energy that wears those thousand disguises until we make her conscious.

What’s The importance of Venus Retrograde?

When Venus goes retrograde - which she does every year- we get a glimpse at her depth. That is to say we get a glimpse at understanding our vibration better. At seeing exactly what we attract to ourselves. Her shift retrograde sends us inwards, and in Gemini (where this will all go down) we are forced into really seeing into our past. Gemini’s energy gifts us with some extra juice that allows us to go a little deeper and to observe from a new perspective.

It’s often hard to be self-reflective. Sometimes our programming is written so deep we don’t even see it as programming. It is buried so deep in our subconscious. However Venus Retrograde in Gemini allows us to delve deep. To see what vibration we are emitting, and then to work to clean that us. These 43 days are a time to use it (or loose it). If you’re ready to clean up old patterns of attraction, now is the time to do it.
